The Wall Sculpture:

The Life of Jesus Christ

Created by Tom Moberg, the wall relief depicts the story of Jesus Christ as found in the Gospels
of the New Testament.

The various areas:
The road represents the journey of Christ.
The Jordan River is the place where Christ was baptized.
The Sea of Galilee is the primary area where Christ did His ministry on Earth.
The city of Jerusalem is the setting of all the events of Christ’s last week on Earth.

The various scenes:
The nativity shows us the birth of Christ who is Emmanuel “God with us.”
The Sermon on the Mount shows us the teaching ministry of Christ.
The Garden of Gethsemane is where Christ wrestled with his decision to die for us.
Golgotha is the hill upon which Christ died.
The Garden of the Resurrection is where Christ arose from the grave.

The various symbols:
The star reminds us of the journey of the wise men and that the Christ Child is the Light of the
world. The biblical references are Matthew 2:1-12 and John 1:1-9.
The dove represents the second person of the Trinity (the Son) and of the baptism of Christ.
The baptism of Christ can be found in all the Gospels.
The lilies of the fields are found at the bottom throughout the sculpture in three places. They
are actual biblical lilies that Jeus uses in his teaching found in Matthew 6:25-34.
The jar of coins and the found coin represents the parable of “The Lost Coin” found in Luke
15:8-10
The flock of sheep and Jesus rescuing the lost sheep represents the parable of “The Lost
Sheep” found in Luke 15:3-7.
The pearl represents the parable of “The Pearl of Great Price” found in Matthew 13:45-46
The sower represents the parable of “The Sower” found in Matthew 13:3-8 and Mark 4:1-9.
The tree of life is found in Genesis 2:9 and Revelation 22:2. It depicts the connection between
the Old and New Testaments. It also represents the seed that fell on good soil.
The two doves on the right wall represent the first and third persons of the Trinity (the Father
and the Holy Spirit).
The palm branches on the road represent the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on
the day of Holy Week.
The chalice and paten represent the last supper Jesus had with his disciples and the
sacrament of Holy Communion which Christians today celebrate to commemorate the events
of Holy Week.
The three crosses represent the crucifixion. Christ was crucified on the center cross. Two
criminals were crucified beside him.
The empty tomb has the burial shroud of Jesus and represents the resurrection of our Lord.
The two doves in the tree of life depict the love and bond of married couples blessed by
God.
